Mwanza District Council has lauded Neno District Council’s development strategies, saying they helped the district to fare well in Local Authority Performance Assessment (Lapa) for two consecutive years.
Neno District Council scooped first position in the 2023/24 Lapa and came second in the 2024/25 one.
Mwanza district commissioner January Mvula said this when his team visited Neno on Saturday to learn best practices in revenue collection, project implementation, procurement and council management in the implementation of projects and service delivery in relation to Lapa.
He said the team gained crucial insights on effective local revenue generation and teamwork in key decision-making processes.
“We proposed to visit Neno District Council to learn and improve in those critical areas,” said Mvula.
His Neno counterpart Alfred Hauya encouraged Mwanza District Council to apply the knowledge, noting that strong collaboration and transparency is key to improving service delivery.
He said the visit was mutually beneficial because it provided a platform for experience sharing and identification of areas that require immediate improvement.
“Teamwork is crucial if councils are to achieve optimum service delivery to their people,” said Hauya.
On his part, Neno District Civil Society Organisations Network chairperson Russel Msiska said such visits help councils to work together as they improve service delivery.
“Creating a favourable working environment with political leaders and local leaders is also key in sustainable service delivery,” he said.
